chap 2

This chapter was very informative and useful for people who might need to learn about the internet. it also explains some vocab which helps with understanding. Overall a good chapter to increase people's technological knowledge. i think too much technology in the classroom can be a downfall. social interaction is a huge part of learning and a huge part of life. many communication skills are picked up at school that may not be picked up by being on the computer all day or solely learning by technology. relationships grow us up and make people feel loved and cared for. this is important in inspiring children to learn. having expectations and encouragement from a teacher is very motivational. One thing i found that caught my attention was the technology for virtually dissecting frogs. that could be useful, especially for students like me who get quesy but at the time its no where near the same.

www.ARCStolearn.com

Well, I have learned how to post a blog since last class. i have never posted a blog or even read one, so this is a fun and new thing for me. i dont know why people have blogs... outside class. iIguess for discussions, im still a little confused. i dont really want stuff posted about me for everyone to read and im wondering who ever reads them, maybe i wil find this info out after the next class!!!
After trudging sthrough the text i learned that the ARCS model is pretty great, but not just all about digital students. The concepts of Attention, Relevance, Challenge/Confidence, and Satisfaction/Success can and should be applied to everyone and every student. I guess in the next few years or maybe already today all students are considered digital students. I think this motivational model is essential to being a great teacher. A teacher who kids remember and are shaped by.
The section on mobile computers was interesting. A watch with internet access is a little extreme but for some people internet access if that important. One of my friends just got a handheld computer/phone. I dont know how he types on it but its pretty neat. i teased him for a while about the phone but even now i break down sometimes and have him look something up online for me or check my facebook!!

learning blog

My Prior Experience Using Technology:
I do not have much experience with technology. I grew up in a household with no internet and an old computer that we only used to type papers. Yes, that means no AIM or e-mail. We never thought it was important to have the latest technology and could not afford it anyways. I took a computers for business majors course last semester but only made it to a few lectures and my recitation teacher had such a heavy accent that i could not understand her. So needless to say, I learned nothing.

I Hope To Learn:
I hope to learn teaching techniques in this class. I am not sure what to expect but it is a required course so i think i will learn a lot. I do not have microsoft office on my computer right now so hopefully I will learn how to get my act together and install it so i can get a good grade. Maybe i will learn how to type better from typing these blogs!!

My Learning Style:
From the survey results i learned that I am more of an active, intuitive, visual, and global learner than a reflective , sensing, verbal, and sequential. Many times I can see myself as being both of these depending on what the material is and what kind of mood im in. i have always been more of a visual learner when it comes to my notes and pictures i draw in them to help me remember but I like it when directions are written out for me. i also like the more theory and relationship learning about life but i love facts and statistics when it comes to sports.
